My interest in Model Building all started when I was around 6 years old.  My Uncle had a hobby shop in Vancouver, called Van Hobbies, which specialized in HO model trains, but had a little of everything.

I would build little model cars or airplanes and he would put them in the window of his store.  Now these were not masterpieces by any stretch of the imagination, but to me, as a 6 year old, it was pretty dam special!  I would ride my bike all the way over from the west side to Cambie Street.  (we were free range kids back then)

I would see my kit in the window (glue finger prints and all) and tell all my friends “that was mine, I built that!”

Years later, as I start to think about retirement... Ha!  I said "think" because with a couple of young kids thinking about it is all I can do these days.  Anyway, I picked up the model bug again and now I build for myself, friends or anyone with the need.  I tend towards O Scale (1:48) because of the available details and I can actually see what I am doing !

Structurally Sound:

The name comes from a conversation a few years back with my son.  He was 6 at the time and was building a fort out of blankets as kids will do.  One day he could not get it right, it kept falling down.  I watched for a while and told him he needed to use something to make it more Structurally Sound…. Ta Da…!

That said, I still have a real job to pay the bills, so the model building is something I do in my spare time... when I have any...!
